About the Synod Mission Resource Fund

Goals

Synod Mission Resource Funding seeks to provide resources that will:

  • renew and revitalise existing congregations, enabling people to experience, nurture and share a passionate faith in God who is revealed in Jesus Christ;
  • encourage the development of new faith communities, including parallel congregations, new worship opportunities and other new ways of being church; and
  • support creative responses to God’s call to witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Governance

The New South Wales Synod of the Uniting Church

The Council of Synod determined in June 2000 that the basic purpose of mission resource funding is to “resource the congregations to fulfil their destiny of being the ‘embodiment in one place of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church, worshipping, witnessing and serving as a fellowship of the Spirit of Christ’ (Basis of Union 15a).

In order for this to occur, the Synod will, on an annual basis, determine what percentage of the Synod Fund will be used for mission resource funding.

Synod Fund Management Committee

The Synod Fund Management Committee will have general oversight of mission resource funding, and this oversight will be exercised through a sub-committee, known as the Synod Mission Resource Fund Committee.

Membership of the SMRFC will be determined by guidelines established by Synod/Council of Synod.

Synod Mission Resource Fund Committee

The committee will be free to pursue the goals of Synod Mission Resource Funding policy, by all means within the Goals and Directions and policies of the Synod and the values and ethos of the Uniting Church, subject to any restrictions on management methods imposed by the Synod Fund Management Committee.

Initially the policy and guidelines of the Synod Mission Resource Fund Committee shall be approved by the Synod Fund Management Committee and may be varied on the recommendation of the Synod Mission Resource Fund Committee.

The Synod Fund Management Committee delegates to the Synod Mission Resource Funding Committee distribution of funds and management of funding and accountability processes within the policy and guidelines.
